• Complete the Second Half of the Cold Read Task Assessment below.
  • BLANK CER Chart 
• Reread the passage "The middle Ages, Medieval Castles" carefully.
• Today you will reread the last 3 sentences of the passage address the prompt and write a constructed response essay:

   

  “Lords and ladies also benefited from the townsfolk who provided food and goods. The castles system was interdependent between the wealthy and the poor. They both needed each other to survive and thrive.”

  Write a CER Paragraph that explains how this detail is reflected in the events and themes of ​The Whipping Boy​. Use evidence from the passage to support your response. Use the conventions of standard English.

Unit Goal:  

• Students read literary and informational texts to understand the class system of the Middle Ages through the fictional tale of two unlikely friends, Price Brat and his whipping boy. Students express their understanding by synthesizing the knowledge they gained about the history of the Middle Ages to study how the actions and changes in characters affect the events in a text and the development of theme.

Objectives: 

• Build knowledge of the Middle Ages through research. 
• Read, discuss, and write about texts. 
• Write a response that analyzes events and characteristics to determine the theme of this novel.
