 1.  Do a CLOSE Read of the passage below: The Sacrifice of the Rainbow Bird. 

How to do a Close Read:

  1. Annotate! Take notes about what you are reading. If you print the passage, you can underline where you find the answers as you reread.  Always go back into the passage to find your answers!
  2. Read the story out loud! This can be to your LC, a sibling, your pet, or your favorite toy â˜º Get creative!
  3. Pay attention to FOOT NOTES: Words that have a number next to them in the passage have a definition further down the page.
  4. Read the passage TWICE before you take the quiz.
  5. Write a 2-3 sentence SUMMARY to review the passage

1.Work on gathering evidence for your body paragraph (3 is the magic number!) You need to be able to prove your claim! Don't forget to write down what book and page number the evidence comes from. 

2. Use the Organizer for the Body to help you plan.

 

You will need to use the IBC method to write this essay.  Your essay needs to include an introduction, body, and conclusion paragraph.

Unit Goal:  

  • Students read literary and informational texts to understand the class system of the Middle Ages through the fictional tale of two unlikely friends, Price Brat and his whipping boy. Students express their understanding by synthesizing the knowledge they gained about the history of the Middle Ages to study how the actions and changes in characters affect the events in a text and the development of theme.

Objectives: 

  • Build knowledge of the Middle Ages through research. 
  • Read, discuss, and write about texts. 
  • Write a response that analyzes events and characteristics to determine the theme of this novel.
